Gruelhound

An entry for 's mythological creature contest!
I made a weird doggy thingy ;V;

Origin: The tale of the gruelhound dates back centuries ago. A man traveling with his dog was lost, tired, and hungry. Staggering, they came across a single lone cottage in the midst of the woods. Desperately, the man knocked on the door, hoping for hospitality. He was greeted by a kindly old woman who invited him inside and made him food. The man and his dog ate until they were full, and went to sleep. The next morning, the woman asked the man to go off on an errand. He was to fetch a sack of gold coins that was sitting by a nearby river, as she had left it the day before. Although he grumbled an wondered why the woman couldn't fetch it herself, he realized this opportunity: to take the gold and run off with it. When he ran down to the river, he ordered his dog to take the bag and run so the woman wouldn't catch it. The dog ran into the forest, but the woman followed. The man did not see his dog after a while, until the woman returned with it. The woman ordered the dog to destroy the owner, and the man was horrified as his own dog ripped him into pieces. The woman was a witch, and so she gave the dog immortal life for being obedient until the end. 

What it does: The gruelhound wanders from town to town, hungry for lying, thieving, traitors. It is said that if mint leaves are placed on the front doorstep, the gruelhound will know that the inhabitants are truthful. However, if a mint leaf is placed untruthfully on a doorstep(the inhabitants lie that there is distrust in the house so the hound will leave them alone), then the gruelhound will enter and absorb the souls living there. The bodies obey the gruelhound's every command. It is said that if one manages to get hold of the gruelhound's eye, the gruelhound and the people it has conquered will be at one's command. A gruelhound will gain your complete trust if you entrust it with a sack of pure gold coins covered in its own glimmery golden dust.

Where it can be found: The gruelhound typically wanders the land of Germany. It is more known to visit older villages. It can only be seen if stare directly into it's eyes.
